Fall is my favorite season! I just love to watch the colors change all around me, and its just so beautiful.
Our family loves to take nature hikes together in our local park, not too far from our home. Over the last few weeks we have watched the trees and bushes put on a colorful show in the Wissahickon Valley Park.
Hiking with Kids
My children are young (ages 3, 5, and 10) and very energetic, so when we go out for a hike we like to be prepared. I always bring snacks for them to eat while we are out, just in case they get hungry. We tend to go pretty far into the trails, so at least they have some Pepperidge Farm Goldfish Crackers to snack on until we get back to the car.
In the fall here in Philly, the weather can be a little bit tricky. Some days are pretty mild, and others can be quite brisk. I always pack a hat and gloves for everyone, even though they never think that they will need them! Most times, they will end up asking for them before the end of the hike.
I usually dress the little ones in a Columbia Fleece to keep them comfortable. I think they are great and I usually buy them every year for each kid, because the kids don’t get overheated when they are running around. The Columbia Fleece
comes in lots of colors too. My 3 year old has a pink one and she just loves the color, last year she had purple.
Footwear for a Long Hike
I’m a walker.
I absolutely LOVE walking. I could walk all day and love it.
My husband on the other hand, is still getting used to the idea of a super long walk. I recently gifted him with these amazing hikers. The KEEN Men’s Voyageur Mid Hiking Boot is great for hiking in the muddy, rocky terrain of the Wissahickon.
Since he’s been wearing these KEEN’s, I haven’t heard any complaints!
I’ve been wearing them for years now (KEEN Women’s Hiking Boot)…so it was only right that I share my secret with him. Honestly, these boots are so comfortable and functional I wear them even when I am not hiking.
I wear them when I’m gardening too by the way!
